Fire Safety

A safe port begins with prevention — fire safety is one of the key pillars of the Durrës Port Authority’s activity.

Through the Fire Protection and Rescue Unit (PMNZSH), the DPA ensures prevention, control and immediate response to any risk that may threaten human life, the environment and port infrastructure.

Operational Capacities

The unit is equipped with:

  • specialised firefighting vehicles for interventions in industrial and port areas;
  • hydrant systems strategically distributed across the entire port perimeter;
  • portable extinguishers and modern equipment for interventions in marine and industrial environments;
  • personal protective equipment (PPE) for every operational staff member.

PMNZSH staff receive periodic training in accordance with national and international safety standards, including IMDG Code (dangerous goods) and ISPS Code requirements, in close cooperation with local firefighting services, civil emergency structures and national security institutions.

Mission

To ensure effective and sustainable protection against fire and emergency incidents at the Port of Durrës, safeguarding life, the environment and the port’s strategic assets through:

  • professionalism,
  • rapid and coordinated response,
  • continuous prevention.

In specific cases, the unit may also intervene outside DPA territory to support emergency situations that cannot be handled by the Durrës regional firefighting structures.

Vision

To develop as a regional model for modern fire safety management in ports through:

  • application of the most advanced technologies;
  • building a highly professional staff;
  • strengthening inter-institutional cooperation.

Our goal is clear:
A safer, more sustainable and fully protected port.
