June 18, 2025

The Port of Durrës is an active partner in the international project “SA Connectivity”, part of the Interreg IPA South Adriatic Programme, which includes 8 partners from Italy, Montenegro, and Albania.

As part of this project, a recent working meeting focused on the strategic assessment of multimodal transport and TEN-T networks was held, bringing together representatives from partner institutions. Discussions centered on preliminary analyses of multimodal mobility and cross-border connections at national and regional levels, with particular emphasis on the role of the Port of Durrës as a key hub for the Western Balkans region.

A special focus was placed on Corridor VIII, recognized as a strategic artery for the international movement of goods and people, as well as for regional cooperation. Participants highlighted the importance of updating this corridor in alignment with EU standards, the objectives of the European Green Deal, and the priorities of the Adriatic-Ionian macro-region.

Through its technical and operational representatives, the Port of Durrës is making a valuable contribution to this process by providing practical expertise in identifying real needs and development potentials for sustainable growth in the transport and logistics sector.

The analytical work involves 8 professional experts, who also lead focus groups in each partner country, aiming to gather both qualitative and quantitative data on the current state of transport infrastructure, existing gaps, and opportunities for improvement.
